Pupil Information - Peer Support
Group
We have introduced a Peer Support scheme at Pontybrenin, in order
to improve the experiences available to all children at playtimes
and lunchtimes.
31 Peer Supporters from Y4 – Y6 learnt new skills, in order
to help other children play more happily at break-times. They
received training in –
- teaching others new games
- helping solve simple problems
- caring and supporting others.
They will actively encourage other children to play team and
group games, and try to solve simple problems; their role is to
support other children. They thought carefully about how the playground
could be better organised, including marking it off in zones,
having more equipment to play. They are going to wear baseball
caps, with the school colour and name, and we hope to purchase
bibs for them in time. They have really enjoyed their training,
and are very excited about their new role.
Here’s what some of them think:
I
think peer supports are a good idea because we can help children
if they have nothing to do or if someone is being mean to
them. We can help people have more friends if |
| they
are shy and scared to ask if they want to play with them |
 |
|
I
think it is a good idea because we can help children play
new games. We can also help children solve problems and stop
children being mean and bullying. We can also stop them being
shy and get |
|
morefriends and more games
and that’s why I think it is a good idea. |
